This report describes the progress achieved in relation to sustainable development since 1992 and the gaps still remaining. It draws attention to a pressing environmental, social, economic and institutional situation. Above all, however, it highlights the vast potential for advancing economic management towards a more comprehensive model in keeping with the notion of inclusive and sustainable development. The guidelines proposed aim to seize the opportunity Rio+20 offers to redefine the vision of future development to which the countries aspire.

In keeping with the official documents, the Rio+20 summit of Governments is being called to provide a response to the multiple problems humankind is facing today, starting with the severe environmental crisis, poverty, and the global economic crisis.

Governments from all over the world will meet in Río de Janeiro, Brasil from June 20-22 2012, to supposedly commemorate 20 years since the “Earth Summit”, the United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development, that established for the first time a global agenda for “sustainable development”.

TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme is a science and innovation park in the town of Mataró, in the comarca (district) of El Maresme (Catalonia, Spain). It is promoted and managed by Fundació TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme having originally been set up and developed by Mataró Town Council. The park’s governing bodies now include the main political, economic and social institutions of El Maresme.

The Science and Technology Park of Extremadura (PCTEx) arises with the primary target to stimulate the Research Results Transfer from the Regional System of Science and Technology to the enterprise sector.

Navarra began its activity in the world of Science and Technology Parks in the year 2000, with the creation of the Ciudad de Innovación, conceived through the First Technological Plan (2000-2003) in which the Government of Navarra defined an area whose mission was to become an industrial policy tool aimed at fostering the socio-economic development of Navarra.

The Alava Technology Park is a reference environment regarding Research, Development and Innovation in the Basque Country, with a high flow of innovating companies devoting more than 10% of their investment to R&D&I, as well as an outstanding scientific-technological community integrated by researchers of Technology Centres, corporate R&D Units and R&D&I coordination agents.

The Technology Park of Asturias (PT Asturias), inaugurated in June 1991, was an initiative of the Government of the Principality of Asturias to boost innovative business in the region. The Park is set in an impressive 48ha (approx.) of urban and natural surroundings and offers high quality, specific services to set up innovative, technology-based companies and projects.
