KOTRA: IT and Cultural Industry Marketing for Korean internationalizationCreated on 2012/2/26 | Update 2012/3/30 | 816 reads
KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), established in 1962 to bolster the Korean economy through trade, is a non-profit governmental trade-investment promotion organization. It has facilitated Korea's rapid export-led economic development through various activities such as overseas market surveys and business matchmaking.
KOTRA not only supports the globalization of Korean companies, but it also helps foreign companies establish and successfully run businesses in Korea. Today, it maintains 111 Korean Business Centers in 76 countries worldwide and serves as a vessel through which foreign companies can conveniently cooperate with Korean companies.
KOTRA organizes international exhibitions in Korea as well as large-scale Korean product shows in strategic markets abroad. In addition, KOTRA arranges the participation of domestic companies in similar events overseas through its "Korea Pavilions". While international trade fairs remain an effective way of displaying the nation's high-quality products and technologies, KOTRA will step up its efforts to make the occasions more specialized and sophisticated.
KOTRA operates the Cyber Business Center at its Seoul headquarters where overseas buyers can hold online business meetings with domestic companies regardless of time and location. Not only do these cyber business meetings offer companies preparatory partner searching opportunities, but they also enable business interactions to continue during difficult times such as the Iraqi war and the SARS epidemic when normal travel is impeded.
IT / Cultural Industry Marketing
As an IT powerhouse, Korea has the world's-best IT infrastructure and holds a competitive edge in the IT industry. And as witnessed in the growing popularity of Korea's cultural contents in Asian markets, such creative industries as music and movies can be the driving force for national economic growth for years to come. In addition to facilitating the conventional trade, KOTRA has taken the lead in promoting trade in software and service.
