Cimatics aims at supporting innovative experiments and outstanding productions in the fields of audiovisual and digital culture. Cimatics Platform is a framework for initiating and facilitating audiovisual productions, events, publications and workshops. Cimatics Festival focuses on presenting to a large and diverse public what is taking place at the cross-roads of art, media, music, design or technology.

Cimatics was set up in 2003 for a first audiovisual festival explicitly grounded in electronic subculture. Soon after, this was expanded into a festival for 'Live Audiovisual Art & VJing'.  Nowadays Cimatics is a large-scale citywide event open to a broad and diverse audience, embracing all aspects of today's urban and digital culture.It's a Brussels-based initiative with structural support from the Flemish authorities as an arts organisation. The main activity of the platform is the annual Cimatics festival.

Cimatics is a festival for digital culture with the focus on people more than technology. The importance of the digital (r)evolution is shifting more and more away from specialised areas such as art and technology towards the common social sphere. Cimatics is inspired by this shift and has the critical ambition to be a cultural event with the focus on experience, celebration, participation and discovery of contemporary digital culture in the broadest sense.

The 2011 festival-edition (in October) focus on USER-GENERATED CONTENT & PARTICIPATORY culture. The event is open for any collaborations of public initiatives aiming at art, media, music and people all over the world.  Next to the organisation of Cimatics festival, activities include the production support of audiovisual and digital creations, tourmanagement and bookings, the organisation of audiovisual events (concerts, performances,...), workshops and guest-curations. 

Cimatics is member of ICAS/ECAS (International Cities of Advanced Sound), the international network of contemporary urban festivals such as Mutek (Montréal), Mutek Mexico, Club Transmediale (Berlin), Todays Art (The Hague) or FutureEverything (Manchester). As a Flemish organisation in Brussels, Cimatics tries to encourage dialogue between the different Belgian and international communities.

Therefore the organisation is member of BKO/RBA (Brussels Kunstenoverleg), and established numerous partnerships with organisations from both the Flemish and the French-speaking community.Cimatics is unique in Belgium and has built up a strong international reputation in the fields of media art, electronic music, graphic design and audiovisual performance.
