The Sergio Motta Institute was founded as a center for projects and discussion, and to play an active role in civil society, as expressed in the creative use of technology and the dissemination of innovation.
The Institute is independent in relation to the state and political parties. Its mission is to undertake initiatives based on the quality of human relations, and to effectively contribute to Brazil’s development in its multiple and diverse forms of expression. The major distinctive feature of the Institute is its focus on everything that relates new telecommunications technologies — the chosen field of its ‘patron’ Sergio Motta — to the cultural and social sector, thus harnessing new technologies to help develop society.

In relation to connections between culture, society and new technologies, the Institute has conducted a series of initiatives in consonance with the demands of our period. Today’s challenges point to a new category of action that calls for the mobilization of collectives if there is to be a real possibility of societal progress. Social mobility has become an strategic element to activate today’s networks.
